We were introduced to Angel Mamani Chavez by TYPICA. Angel is a passionate, multigenerational coffee grower from Caranavi, Bolivia. Along with his wife Ana and their two young children, Angel cares for Finca Montaña Verde and Finca Anita, both nestled along the Coroico River.
Originally, Angel planted Castillo for its disease resistance and high yield, but as market demand and climate conditions evolved, he expanded to include Pacamara, Java, Geisha, and Catuai. In 2024, they even planted more Geisha trees to meet the rising demand for this coveted variety.
Caranavi, often called the heart of Bolivia’s coffee region, is renowned for its high altitudes, rich soil, and perfect climate – ideal for producing exceptional specialty coffee. The Coroico River, part of the vast Amazon Basin, plays a vital role in sustaining agriculture and the local communities.
